We cannot live through a single day without sharing stories and being influenced by them: stories motivate us, challenge us to think in new ways, and to feel the differences, as well as similarities we have with others. The process of storytelling is one of the things that makes us uniquely human, and the telling, listening, and amplification of stories can and does create social impact. Sarah Malone, Regional Vice President, Operations | BozzutoSarah Malone, Regional Vice President, holds 14 years of experience in the industry and currently oversees a portfolio of assets in the Northern Virginia market, predominantly in Arlington. Her experience includes various types of assets and stages, pre-development consulting and mixed-use management. She is responsible for managing significant capital improvements projects in addition to the overall operational and financial performance of her portfolio.

Carole also helped lead the organization to move to a fully-remote workspace in 2020. Carole has over 30 years of higher education experience, where she has spent 7 years at Common App, and 27 years at the University of Richmond. Carole resides in Richmond, VA, with her husband, who also works at the University of Richmond and has 2 daughters who live close by.

Emily Cassell, Director | Arlington Convention and Visitors ServicesEmily Cassell is Director of the Arlington Convention and Visitors Service, the County’s official destination marketing organization and a division within Arlington Economic Development. Arlington has been Virginia’s #1 county for visitor spending since 2009. Since joining AED in 2006, Emily has been responsible for leading all tourism-related marketing and public relations; meeting and convention sales; and visitor and convention services. Arlington visitors generated more than $3.5 billion in spending in 2019, with tourism accounting for more than 27,000 local jobs, nearly $98 million in local tax receipts, and nearly $134 million in state tax receipts. Emily has more than 25 years of marketing experience in travel and tourism. She holds an International MBA from the University of South Carolina and Austria’s Vienna University of Economics and Business, as well as a Bachelor of Journalism with Honors from the University of Texas at Austin.

Mandle, Deputy Executive Director | National Landing Business Improvement DistrictRobert Mandle is currently the Deputy Executive Director for the National Landing Business Improvement District where his background for mobility, placemaking and collaboratively building communities for people, not just buildings, drives his perspective and vision. Most recently, Rob’s work envisioning and championing a new pedestrian connection to the airport, the CC2DCA Intermodal Connector, helped propel a unique, differentiating idea into an important infrastructure investment included in the Commonwealth’s winning Amazon proposal. Rob is a graduate of Bowdoin College and earned a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning at Virginia Tech’s regional campus in Alexandria.

Marian Marquez, Director of Business Development | Arlington Economic DevelopmentMarian Marquez is Director of Business Investment for Arlington Economic Development (AED). In this role she oversees Arlington’s efforts in business recruitment and retention, international trade, entrepreneur support and catalyzing the innovation economy. Among other achievements, Marian contributed heavily to the successful recruitment of Amazon’s HQ2 to Arlington and standing up the County’s international and business retention strategies.
